COVID-19 Collection Information

Effective Monday, March 23, 2020, Penn Waste has suspended Bulk Item Collection until further notice so that they can continue to focus all efforts and personnel on normal trash and recycling collection. The collection of trash is their top priority as improperly managed waste can create conditions that may have severe adverse effects on public health, safety and the environment.

Yard waste collection, which was slated to begin on April 1, has been suspended until further notice, as the facility that accepts yard waste from our collection is closed. If you need to store yard waste in your yard until collection resumes, we recommend doing so in plastic bags. Although the yard waste bags have wet-strength properties, they should be kept as dry as possible and filled as closely as possible to the scheduled collection day. Wet bags and organic material, along with warm temperatures, can begin the decomposition process which can result in bags falling apart during collection.

Trash & Recycling Collection

Convenient weekly curbside trash and recycling removal is provided to City residents at an affordable price. The rate for 2020 is $60 a quarter. There is a senior discount for those 65 and older who own and occupy their home.

Trash and recycling containers shall be set out after 6 p.m. the evening before collection, and removed by 8 p.m. the day of collection. Trash and recycling containers shall be stored to the side or rear of the property and not in front of the property.

Up to six (6) 32 gallon/30 pound bags of trash will be collected from each household per week. Bags must be tied or closed to prevent litter, spillage, or attracting rodents. Smaller bags, such as grocery bags, used to collect trash in the home must be placed in larger heavy plastic trash bags or trash containers for curbside collection.

One (1) over-sized item a week is allowed in place of two (2) trash bags/cans. An over-sized item is an item that does not fit in a trash container, is no heavier than 60 pounds, is no bigger than 6 feet in any dimension, is not a tire, is not a large appliance, and does not contain refrigerant (no air conditioners). Examples of over-sized items are: a chair, an end table, a small mattress, etc.

Large 96-gallon curb carts are available from the City’s hauler for an additional fee of $6/month, collected directly by the hauler. A curb cart is equivalent to three (3) regulation trash containers.
