Water Meter Service Upgrade Letter

January 9, 2019 | Bureau of Water

The City of Lancaster is in the process of upgrading our water meter technology to Itron smart meters, which allow for readings to be done remotely, eliminating the need for physical access to the meter and providing more accurate readings that will contribute to more consistent bills. This program is mandatory for all City of Lancaster water customers.

The smart meters utilize the same radio frequency (RF) energy used for radio and television broadcasting, cellular telephones, satellite communications, microwave ovens, and more. There is no demonstrated association between low levels of RF exposure and adverse health effects. More information about the RF technology used in these smart meters can be found at the www.itron.com/na/support/consumer-resource-center/radio-frequency-resource-center.

If you have already received a letter and made an appointment or had your service upgraded, we thank you for your cooperation. Lost your letter? Contact GridOne Solutions at 1-866-733-8303 or info@gridonesolutions.com.

If you have not yet received a letter, you will be receiving one over the next several months. The letters are on City letterhead but will instruct you to schedule your appointment directly with Grid One Solutions. Please do so promptly, as work is being done in specific areas at specific times to maximize efficiency. There is no cost to you for this upgrade.

At the time of the appointment, meters older than 14 years will be replaced. Also, an electronic radio transmitter (ERT) will replace the touchpad currently located on the outside of your home. Connections to and from meters are the customer’s responsibility to maintain, so please ensure that they are in working order prior to the appointment. Neither the contractor nor the City of Lancaster will be responsible for damage resulting from inoperable pipes, valves or other equipment.

We thank you for your continued cooperation and look forward to providing you with a better service experience. If you have any questions or concerns, please email info@cityoflancasterpa.gov.
