Mayor Sorace Releases Statement on Sunday Shooting

This has been a heartbreaking day for our city. I grieve for the loss of life and know that there are more questions to be answered as the investigation continues.  

Sunday at 4:15 p.m., officers from Lancaster Bureau of Police responded to a residence on Laurel St. for a report of an in-progress domestic disturbance. There was an officer-involved shooting and 27-year-old male, Ricardo Munoz, is deceased.  

The Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office is investigating, as is longstanding protocol in Lancaster County. The DA issued a statement this evening that can be found in its entirety on their website, including information from their preliminary investigation.  

The incident was recorded on body camera footage. The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on leave. 

The District Attorney’s investigation is ongoing.
