Lower Water Pressure

March 9, 2022 | Bureau of Water Department of Public Works

The City of Lancaster Bureau of Water is currently repairing a leak on the large transmission main in East Hempfield Township. This work will continue through Friday, March 11, approximately. During this time, customers on the western side of the City’s water distribution system will still maintain water service, however, they may experience lower water pressure than normal.

Customers may also experience water discoloration after the repair is completed, as sediment may become disturbed and suspended throughout the piping network due to valves being opened and closed. Though this may cause unpleasant appearance or odors, the water is disinfected through chlorination and is still safe for use. If you do experience discoloration of your water, we recommend that you avoid using hot water and doing laundry until water is clear to prevent unnecessary sediment from entering your hot water system.

If you have any questions, please call the Water Lab at (717) 291-4818 Monday through Friday 7 a.m. – 3 p.m.  After hours, please call (717) 291-4816 or (717) 684-5056.
