City of Lancaster Seeking Christmas Tree

October 2, 2019 | Department of Public Works LOOP

The City of Lancaster, in partnership with Lancaster’s Economic Action for Downtown’s Success (LEADS), is seeking an evergreen to serve as the City’s Christmas Tree in Penn Square this holiday season.

Property owners who have an appropriately shaped, 25 foot or taller evergreen that they are planning to remove in the near future are invited to contact the City. Interested property owners should contact City Arborist, Jim Bower, at (717) 291-4846 or jbower@cityoflancasterpa.com, including their name, address, phone number and location of the tree. A jury of City staff and LEADS board members will select the tree.

The tree selected will be cut down by the City, then transported and mounted in Penn Square shortly before Thanksgiving. The donor will be recognized for their contribution in a press release and the program at the Mayor’s Tree Lighting & Tuba Christmas. After the holidays are over, the tree will be transformed into mulch for City parks.

The tree will be the centerpiece of the Mayor’s Tree Lighting & Tuba Christmas on Friday, Nov. 29. For more information about the event, go to www.visitlancastercity.com/lancaster-city-for-the-holidays.

Lancaster’s Economic Action for Downtown’s Success (LEADS) aims to support the economic vitality of downtown Lancaster through beautification initiatives that will attract visitors, residents, and businesses. Each spring, city lampposts are adorned with flower baskets, and each fall they’re decorated with holiday wreaths and garlands. LEADS receives no public funding, and its all-volunteer board conducts a variety of fundraisers each year to pay for these programs. For more information, visit www.lancasterleads.org.
