FREE Home Compost Workshops Scheduled The Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority (LCSWMA) is partnering with municipalities, community organizations and Penn State Master Gardeners of Lancaster County to conduct home compost workshops where residents will learn how to recycle organic waste from their kitchens and gardens instead of putting it in the trash. The City of Lancaster Department of Public Works will be performing a thorough flushing of water distribution mains to promote maximum water quality. Flushing operations will begin on Sunday, March 18, 2018. Flushing will be done Sunday through Thursday from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am. The CRIZ Authority will be holding a public hearing at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 in the City Commission Meeting Room at City Hall to discuss the removal of some properties and businesses from the CRIZ and to provide the opportunity for public comment. Monday, April 9 through Thursday, April 12, employees for PPL will be performing nighttime inspections of manholes in the streets in the downtown. This work is scheduled from 7:30 pm to 4:30 am. Periodic, short-term lane restrictions and minor parking restrictions should be expected. Work zones will have lighting and lit arrow boards for driver safety. This investigative work is the prelude to a large conductor replacement project scheduled from mid-May to late-July, due to several failures in the downtown network over the last two years. Penn Waste will begin collection at 4:00 a.m. for the remainder of the week to allow them to get ahead of traffic and be able to collect all of the extra material from last week's cancellations.
