Congratulations to Thomas Goodhart, who was named Neighbor of the Month for March!
Thomas is a Lancaster City native, and currently lives on Pearl Street in the home he grew up in since 1968.
Several neighbors nominated Thomas, noting that he is the "unoffical mayor" of their block! One neighbor said, "He is quick to help you shovel your sidewalk. He has adopted our block and takes that role seriously. He even make sure no one steals the packages from his neighbors stoops!"
Another neighbor wrote, "Since we've known Thomas, he has always been eager to say hello and share a conversation or a joke or facts about our neighborhood's interesting history, as well as offer a helping hand picking weeds or mowing a neighbor's lawn, or to lend a tool."
in December of 2017, there was a fire at Thomas's home that displaced him for several months. Even while he was living in temporary housing, neighbors say that Thomas returned to the block often to visit and lend a hand.
Thomas is engaged not only on his block of Pearl Street, but in the Lancaster City community as a whole. He volunteers with the Red Rose Run and at the Sertoma Chicken BBQ, and has reached his 40th anniversary as the JP McCaskey football equipment manager. He enjoys history and considers himself an archivist for Lancaster City History. Thomas is an avid collector, with Hallmark ornament, Barbie and Hot Wheels collections. He loves Long's Park, and enjoys Lombardo’s, the House of Pizza, and Captain Gus's Steak Shop.
We thank Thomas for his commitment to his neighbors on Pearl Street and the Lancaster community as a whole!
