Free Tire Collection

The City of Lancaster has partnered with Penn State Cooperative Extension and the DEP for a free tire collection on Saturday, November 11 from 7 to 11 am at 421 S. Broad Street, Lancaster.

Tires provide an excellent habitat for mosquitoes, particularly the Asian tiger mosquito, a potential vector of Zika virus. Tires may also provide habitat for a number of other mosquito species that may be a nuisance or spread other diseases, such as West Nile Virus. In response to the potential hazard, the Lancaster County Mosquito-Borne Disease Program is conducting a one-day tire collection to promote mosquito habitat removal.

- Open to persons living in Lancaster County. Please bring proof of address.

- There is no preregistration for this event.

- Tires will be taken for FREE from each individual, so long as space is available.

- Tires must be drained of water if off the rim, unburned, and not excessively dirty.

- PLEASE NOTE THAT SPACE IS LIMITED. One trailer will be loaded to capacity with tires. Excess tires will not be accepted.

- BUSINESSES THAT COLLECT TIRES SHOULD NOT BRING THEM but instead should recycle scrap tires for a fee, at any facility operated by Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority (LCSWMA). For more information about LCWMS’s services, call (171) 397-9968 or visit lcswma.org.
