The snow emergency declared on Tuesday, March 20 will be lifted at 7 a.m. on Thursday, March 22. Residents may begin removing vehicles from Lancaster Parking Authority garages and resume parking on snow emergency routes at 7 a.m. All vehicles must be removed from Lancaster Parking Authority garages before 9 a.m. on Thursday, March 22 or they will be charged the hourly rate.

First, we would like to thank the community for being cooperative and patient during this spring nor’easter. By declaring a snow emergency early last evening, we were able to get cars off the snow emergency route before the bulk of the storm hit – which is the primary purpose of a snow emergency. Due to the heavy accumulation, many businesses in downtown Lancaster closed this morning. This freed up garage space, allowing residents to leave their cars in the garages while our crews handle snow removal throughout the City. A snow emergency has been declared, effective at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 20. Vehicles must be removed from designated snow emergency routes by 9 p.m. on March 20 or be subject to ticketing and/or towing. Vehicles may not return to snow emergency routes until the snow emergency has been lifted. Any car parked on a snow emergency route during a snow emergency will be towed. UPDATE 3/7: Trash and recycling collection has been cancelled, and the remainder of the week will be on a holiday schedule. Wednesday customers should place their trash out on Thursday, Thursday customers should place their trash out on Friday, and so on through Saturday. Beginning on Monday, February 26, contractors for the City of Lancaster Department of Public Works (Rogele, Inc.) will mobilize and begin the first of approximately seven phases of construction. Each phase is slated to last 6-8 weeks with weather cooperation. The contractor will generally work on 1-2 phases at a time, and generally proceed with the work from north to south. Due to inclement weather, all Penn Waste routes are cancelled on Wednesday, February 7. Penn Waste will be operating on a holiday schedule for the remainder of the week. Wednesday customers will be collected on Thursday. Thursday customers will be collected on Friday. Friday customers will be collected on Saturday. Thank you for your cooperation so Penn Waste can effectively collect your trash and recycling while maintaining the safety of their employees. On Tuesday, January 23, the City of Lancaster Employee Recognition Committee held the Employee Service Awards, honoring those who reached 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, and 50 years of service with the City of Lancaster in 2017. 68 employees were honored, with a group total of 845 years of service. On Thursday, January 18, the City of Lancaster received a lot of feedback from residents regarding street sweeping enforcement. According to the Lancaster Parking Authority, the number of tickets given during street sweeping enforcement was unusually high. Residents from all neighborhoods seemed confused about whether street sweeping was happening given the build-up of ice and snow along the parking lanes and curbs lines.
