2015 Leaf Collection

The City’s Annual Street Leaf Collection Program will begin October 26 and continue through December 14, weather permitting. Leaves are collected two different ways depending on where they fall.

Leaves falling into streets are collected by street sweepers. Street sweeping leaf collection follows the twice monthly street sweeping schedule, except on King, Orange, Queen, Prince and Manor Streets and Highland Avenue which are designated for weekly cleaning. Residents can confirm their pickup days by checking the signs on their street. On November 3, 26 and 27, street leaf collection will not occur due to City holidays.

Residents should not rake leaves into street-side gutters, as leaf collection by street sweeping is not intended to be used for the collection of leaves that have fallen on sidewalks and private property. Residents are also reminded that general street cleaning operations continue year-round and parking restrictions are enforced throughout all seasons.

Leaves falling onto sidewalks and the yards of private property will be collected, but must be placed in 30-gallon yard waste bags; leaves should not be placed in plastic bags. Appropriate yard waste bags are free of charge and can be picked up at the following locations:

-          The Treasury Office at 39 West Chestnut Street

-          City Hall at 120 North Duke Street

-          Bureau of Streets at 750 Fairview Avenue

-          Recycling Drop-Off Center at 850 New Holland Avenue.

Bagged leaves will be collected according to the trash collection schedule on alternating weeks of November 2, November 16 and November 30, ending December 4.

Please be aware that limbs and branches should never be placed in gutters or along curbs since they cause damage to collection equipment. There is a separate recycling program for yard waste between April and October. Please contact the Solid Waste Hotline at (717) 291-4744 or SWHotline@cityoflancasterpa.com for details and schedule.
